If you like futuristic books it is definitely for you. by Isabel Uribe Hernandez Jumanji is Finally Here...Jumanji is a hilarious movie directed by Jake Kasdan and got a rating of 90% from the audience score and a 75% from the Tomatometer. The movie takes an interesting turn from the original 1995’s Jumanji movie. Fandango shows that the movie is about four teenagers who are sent to detention and finds a very old and mysterious game from the 90’s. When starting the game, they are sucked into a virtual jungle and become the character they choose. However, this is much more of a problem because if they can’t beat the game, they might not be able to get out alive. The movie follows Spencer Gilpin played by Alex Wolff, who later becomes Smolder Bravestone (Dwayne Johnson), Anthony Johnson known as Fridge (Ser’Darius Blain) as Franklin “Moose” Finbar (Kevin Hart), Bethany Walker (Madison Iseman) who becomes Professor Shelly Oberon (Jack Black), and Martha Kaply (Morgan Turner) as Ruby Roundhouse (Karen Gillan). Later on in the movie, they meet with Alex Vreeke who is Jefferson “Seaplane” Jefferson (Nick Jonas). Smolder Bravestone, Spencer Gilpin’s character, according to tvtropes, is the ace who’s the strongest, fastest, and has no weakness. “Spencer’s Avatar is undoubtedly the best in the game”. Since Spencer has experience in playing games and a habit of calling out moves when playing Street Fighter, as Smolder Bravestone, he calls out his moves while fighting henchmen. Smolder Bravestone is a well-known Adventurer Archaeologist, similar to Indiana Jones. Even though Smolder Bravestone’s abilities are being ‘Fearless’, Spencer, a nerdy, unconfident teenager usually gets in the way of this. During the movie, we find that Spencer is terrified of squirrels because as Smolder Bravestone, he gets startled by a squirrel and loses one of his lives. Smolder Bravestone has many abilities and skills such as super strength and super speed. He is indeed the best in the game. Franklin “Moose” Finbar, Fridge’s avatar, during the movie, was given the name “Mouse” for his small size and “quirky personality”. Tvtropes writes, “Fridge’s Avatar has an encyclopedic knowledge of all animals, and allows him to perform feats like defanging a Black Mamba, one of the most dangerous animals alive.” Since Finbar has knowledge of all animals, in the movie, he was able to tame an elephant with his skill. Finbar’s major role is to carry a backpack that contains weapons for Smolder Bravestone. During the movie, Finbar was said to be Smolder Bravestone’s sidekick. In the game, he’s usually whiny and before getting sucked in the game, he was a jerk. Finbar must have the worst weakness which is cake. When he eats cake, he would explode and die, however, each player has three lives so he still survived. Anthony Johnson, Fridge, “used to be childhood friends with Spencer, however, his focus on football has placed a gap between the two. At the end of the movie, though, they become friends again. Professor Shelly Oberon, Bethany’s avatar, wears a “scholar’s version of the safari outfit, including a pith helmet.” Bethany is very popular at school, however, in the game, she goes through lots of character development throughout the movie without having her phone with her. Even though she is thought as a “Dumb Blonde”, she has good judgment skill. Even though she complains most of the time, she does her best in helping the other players. She helped Martha with her flirting skills which boosted her confidence in herself. Professor Shelly Oberon is a “map doctor” and the only who is able to see the map that was given to them at the beginning of the movie. Although she was very shocked and disgusted that she was a middle-aged, obese man’s body, throughout the movie, she accepted that she was a man, which helped with character development. Ruby Roundhouse, the avatar of Martha Kaply, is the other "combat-centric player character". She's the only female character and rocks a crop-top with the Lara Croft-esque shorts. She has mastered all kinds of martial arts and her only weakness is snake venom. According to tvtropes, "As Ruby, she is a force to be reckoned with when fighting, though she is usually laid-back and reserved." During the movie, she had to be coached to become girly, however, her real self is a shy girl who has no experience at all. Also, whenever she tries to speak up for herself, she starts to regret it later on. Jefferson "Seaplane" McDonough, video game character of Alex Vreeke, known as the boy who disappeared for twenty years. He is an ace pilot, although Alex claims that "his skills are less than satisfactory". Since Alex was trapped in the game for years, waiting for a way to pass an obstacle, he has failed many times, with only one life left. His main weakness is mosquitoes bites, which is the worst weakness ever since mosquitoes are everywhere in Jumanji. I thought that the movie was incredible and that you should definitely go check it out. It was hilarious and awkward, but very entertaining. My only complains about this movie is that the story was way too easy going and needed a more challenging villain. Also, I think that fans of the original 1995's Jumanji, would compare both movies. In my opinion, I believe the original movie was better and a classic. However, the take on this already perfect movie was very interesting and different. If the movie was not named Jumanji but another name, I think it would have better views, however, it was very good. The movie is the perfect way to make your day and if you would like to check out comedies, this is the perfect recommendation. I hope you check it out and enjoy it as much as I did. by Cassidy Xiong Flashback from the Past with FerdinandA pacifist bull, all he wants to do is smell the flowers. Ferdinand was originally a picture book written by Munro Leaf and illustrated in black and white by Robert Lawson.
What was originally a book to teach kids to be themselves has been transformed into an animated film and has gotten a 70 percent on rotten tomatoes and 87 percent of people liked the movie. This film teaches you to “be yourself” and that “you don't need to do things because others expect you to” is cute and fun with many famous voice actors and a great song choice. The movie has John Cena, Peyton Manning, Kate McKinnon, Gabriel Iglesias, Flula Borg, David Tennant, Bobby Cannavale, Anthony Anderson, and Daveed Diggs with the song Castle on the hill by Ed Sheeran. Ferdinand was a great movie. It was heartwarming, I would have to say that it was a bit deep for little kids but overall I liked the movie it was cute yet sad at the same time. The movie Ferdinand was an amazing movie with a bunch of lessons and the twist and turns keep you hooked through the movie and I would give it an 8 out of 10 overall. by Rocio Vidanna
