Tokyo Ghoul is an amazing anime that is still very popular currently. Tokyo Ghoul is a very dark and depressing anime that revolves around the protagonist Ken Kaneki. The story is set in Tokyo, where humans and ghouls, man-eating monsters coexist. But since both are a threats to each other, they find ways to survive. CCG is a corporation that hunts down ghouls and use them as armor. As humans and ghouls struggle to survive, Ken Kaneki stands between them as neither human or ghoul.
According to TokyoGhoul, Ken Kaneki is 18 years old but as the story progresses, he grows older. He was a human studying in Japanese Literature at Kamii University. He was the everyday ordinary japanese college student you can find anywhere, which changes when he meets Rize Kamishiro. Ken Kaneki has fallen in love with her and when going on a great date, he soons finds out that she is a ghoul. When she tries to eat him, Jason, another powerful and well-known ghoul, kills her, apparently. Ken Kaneki was sure to die, but survived when Rize Kamishiro’s kakuho was transplanted in him. When Kaneki wakes up, he has to face the harsh realities that he is now a ghoul, a one-eyed ghoul. TokyoGhoul states, “After joining Anteiku as a part-time waiter, he learned how to live as a ghoul and eventually became known as Eyepatch. After being captured by Aogiri Tree, he underwent a drastic personality change and after escaping, formed a group with the goal of protecting those precious to him and exterminating individuals threatening his place of belonging. His kakuja's distinct appearance earned him the alias Centipede” Kaneki’s appearance changed drastically from the start of the manga and anime towards the end. At the beginning, Kaneki has dark black hair and is a very short, scrawny young man. Later on as he first gets turned into a ghoul, one of his eyes are now red. After getting tortured by Jason, Kaneki’s hair turns snow white. Later on in the manga series, when he becomes the one-eyed king, his hair turns scarlet red. Kaneki wears a mask that looks like a leather gimp mask with an eye patch. The mouth part has a lipless mouth with teeth. His ghoul mask “resembles that of the Frankenstein theme”. I love the anime and enjoyed the hardships and tragedies that Kaneki went through to become who he is today. It was a very emotional ride, especially when we lost his best friend, Hideyoshi. At the end of season two, it showed a very sad scene where Kaneki is holding the dead Hideyoshi in his arms as he walks past everyone. The amazing opening song from season one played in the background as fans cry their heart out. This scene was also what made fans ship Kaneki and Hideyoshi as the perfect pair. However, Kaneki has Touka. I hope that you would try to watch this depressing and gruesome anime. Just be sure that you have permission from a parent or guardian because of the gore. I hope that you check this anime out and enjoy it as much as I do. Also check out the opening song since it’s the most popular song of this series. It’s amazing and shows so much emotion.
