On November 8, 2017, the 8th grade students headed out at the end of 4th period to the Selland Arena. On this trip all the eighth graders had the chance to talk to administrators at each high school and learn about what courses they specialize in. Before boarding the bus, students were given a lanyard with a little card to put their name. On the card was five places where students could get stations to mark it off. When the five places were marked then the students would turn it in, later receive a T-Shirt. If students were interested in the medical field then they could go to Duncan and Sunnyside's station. If other students were interested in the technology field then they could go to Edison’s station. Some stations were even giving out fun items such as earbuds, USBs, lanyards and even Hoover’s station was letting students print their fingerprints and keep the paper where it was printed. Hoover even showed students what their fingerprint had, like loops.
At Edison's station students were able to learn about their Biomedical Science and Technology pathway. The Biomed pathway is a four year, intense program that prepares students that are interested in a job in the medical field. This program provides a hands on, real world learning environment exposing students to the depth understanding of career options. Some in depth learning they do is exam the human body and its system. They also study medical inventions to investigate what is involved in the treatment of diseases. They even study Biomedical Innovations which is their course for the biomedical science pathway. Which goes along with their motto “Preparing Tomorrow's Medical Professionals so you don't die”. by Araceli Barrera
