Happy Death Day is a thrilling horror movie that was recently released on Friday the 13th. According to Rotten Tomatoes Happy Death Day is currently given a rating of 67% out of 100%. However, according to Google users 85% like this movie. This horrific but comedic film is definitely a big hit as they made over five times their budget in just the opening week ($26.5 million).
The movie is directed by Christopher B. Landon, written by Scott Lobdell, and produced by Jason Blum. In Happy Death Day, a collegian named Tree wakes up on her birthday in the bed of a student named Carter to only get murdered. However, there is an unexpected twist. Tree wakes up again, exactly the same way completely unharmed. We follow her journey of being continuously murdered and reliving the same day. The cycle never stops. WAKE UP. DIE. REPEAT. The only possible way for Tree to stop living this horrifying cycle for the rest of her life is to figure out her murderer's identity. Happy Death Day’s cast stars the all to comedic Jessica Rothe and American actor Israel Broussard. Jessica Rothe is casted as Tree Gelbman and Israel Broussard as Carter Davis. Though this duo is casted in a horror/thriller film, the personalities of their characters add some aspects of comedy, giving humorous one liners and knee slappers. The rest of the cast includes Ruby Modine, Charles Aitken, Rachel Matthews, and Laura Clifton. Many people say Happy Death Day was a “dud”, however I think otherwise. It was a very unique movie unlike any other. Happy Death Day was like Scream meets Groundhog Day as described by thegaurdian. Thus, the movie is rated PG-13 and may not be suited for all ages. Happy Death day does contain gorey scenes, violence, and mature language. To put that aside, the suspenseful movie did an excellent job at keeping me on the edge of my seat the whole time. by Taylor Yang
